Double eyelid & eye surgery in Korea: a plain-English guide

Eye surgery is popular because results can be subtle and recovery is shorter than most procedures, but there are real choices to make.

The main options

  • Non-incisional (suture) double eyelid: small punctures, quicker recovery; usually suited to thinner lids
  • Incisional double eyelid: an incision along the new crease; often suggested for heavier lids or extra skin
  • Ptosis correction: strengthens a weak eyelid-lifting muscle (the "tired eyes" look). Worth an opinion at home too, since in some countries it's a medical issue
  • Epicanthoplasty (inner corner) and lateral canthoplasty (outer corner): change eye shape, and are harder to undo
  • Under-eye fat repositioning or removal: for bags and hollows

Choosing a crease

Higher creases look more dramatic; lower ones tend to look more natural on hooded or monolid eyes. Most clinics can simulate the line in consult, so ask for photos of each height. Bring photos of what you want and what you don't. Discussion: incisional vs non-incisional

Watch for upselling

Being told you "need" double eyelids when you asked about under-eye fat is common. You can say no. See this thread.

Combining procedures

Eyes plus nose in one trip is common, but it means longer anaesthesia and double the swelling. Ask whether they'd do both on the same day. Discussion
