Chin implant vs sliding genioplasty — trying to understand the difference

Weak chin, profile bugs me more than anything. I keep seeing both options. Which questions help figure out which one is even relevant to me?

Very broadly: implant adds volume on the bone, genioplasty cuts and moves the bone itself (so it can move it forward, down, sideways, shorten). Which makes sense depends on your bite, how much change you need, and direction. Ask them to explain on your X-ray/CT why they're picking one.

Ask about the bite too. Sometimes a weak chin is partly a jaw thing and they'll mention orthodontics or double jaw — better to know before.

Ask about numbness too, lower lip/chin area especially for genioplasty. Seems to be one of the big recovery questions.

  • Jaw questions person here too. One consult told me my "weak chin" was mostly a set-back lower jaw. Get the X-ray done before deciding anything.
