Did anyone tell their GP back home before going?

Bit of an awkward one. I'm in Ireland and my GP is lovely but very old school, and I can already picture the face. On the other hand, if something comes up after I get home, she's the person I'll actually be seeing. Did people mention it beforehand, after, or not at all? Mostly asking how you framed it.

I'd tell them before. Not to ask permission, just so they know and can flag anything in your history that a clinic abroad wouldn't see. Mine was more relaxed about it than I expected once I said I'd bring all the paperwork back.

  • Honestly the main reason to tell them is aftercare. If you get home and something feels off, it's much easier to walk in with your operative notes and medication list than to explain from scratch. And anything urgent like fever, spreading redness or bad pain is a call to the clinic or emergency services anyway, not a wait-for-a-GP-appointment thing.

"not asking permission, just keeping you in the loop" is a good way to put it. stealing that
