Travel insurance — does anything actually cover complications from elective surgery abroad?

Every normal travel policy I read excludes "elective or cosmetic procedures". Has anyone found a policy that covers complications, or is the plan just to have savings set aside?

Most standard policies exclude it, yeah. There are specialist "medical travel" / complications policies in some countries — read the fine print on what counts as a complication and whether you have to be treated back home vs in Korea. Your regular travel insurance can still matter for the non-surgery parts of the trip.

I'm doing both: separate emergency fund + asking each clinic what their policy is if a revision or extra treatment is needed (who pays, how long it applies). Get it in writing.

Also check if your home insurer will treat complications at all once you're back. Worth one phone call before booking.

Same boat. Following for anyone who finds a policy that actually covers it.

Saving up, so adding an insurance line to the budget now. Thanks for this.

Read the definition of "complication" twice. Some policies only pay out within a set number of days after the op.
